Could this be the time that Cristiano Ronaldo & co? finally, get their hands on the trophy after securing qualification through the playoffs?
They have been drawn into Group H along with Uruguay, Ghana, and South Korea. Not an easy group to be placed in, but given the resources in their tank, they are likely to progress to the knockouts, barring a major upset.
With the 26 players locked in, how far do you think Portugal will go in Qatar?
Goalkeeping should be a concern for Santos in Qatar. Although there are plenty of options to choose from, none can be counted as amongst the best in the world.
Veteran keeper Rui Patricio has traditionally been the top choice but he is prone to errors.
Porto’s Diogo Costa is a young keeper and is known to be sure-footed between the sticks, but lacks the experience of playing on the biggest stages. Qatar could be the chance he takes the lead role, though, and truly announces himself to the world.
Wolves’ Jose Sa is likely to be the third choice for Santos but is yet to make his senior national team debut.
Portugal has a solid back-line led by Manchester City skipper Ruben Dias. He is likely to be partnered with an experienced candidate in Pepe.
Jose Fonte has missed out despite his experience, as has versatile option Tiago Djalo and the likes of David Carmo and Ferro.
Joao Cancelo is the preferred choice at right-back but could face competition for a starting berth from Diogo Dalot, who has been exceptional at Manchester United this season.
On the left flank, Nuno Mendes should start. However, Santos is spoilt for choice in this position as there are several other candidates in Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro and the fact that Cancelo can play there too.
Some big names have missed out – a reservoir of talent!
Portugal has plenty of quality at the center of the park, too.
The preferred three should be Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Neves, and Bernardo Silva. But if Santos wants to mix things up in the middle, he has plenty of assuring options.
Vitinha and Matheus Nunes are young and exciting talents, while William Carvalho adds further depth and experience to the roster.
Renato Sanches once tipped to be a generational talent, has failed to live up to expectations. He is struggling for minutes at PSG after joining them in the summer and has missed out on making the cut as a result.
Portugal’s hopes rest once again on the shoulders of Cristiano Ronaldo. The player with the most international goals in men’s football will look to further add to his tally in Qatar and guide his nation to the ultimate prize in international football.
He will be ably supported by players such as Joao Felix and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, with Diogo Jota and Pedro Neto both ruled out due to injury.
Andre Silva and Goncalo Ramos have made the cut, but there is no room for Goncalo Guedes, who misses out altogether.
The retirement of Rafa Silva from international football in September was a surprise for Portugal.
The first choice between the sticks should be Diogo Costa, with the Porto man displacing the more experienced Rui Patricio for the qualification playoffs and now seemingly being Portugal’s No.1.
In defense, Ruben Dias and Pepe are likely to be the two center backs with Mendes and Cancelo as the wide options.
Neves will likely play the role of a defensive midfielder, with Bernardo Silva slightly higher up. Meanwhile, Fernandes will likely be the most attacking option.
The front three could be comprised of Otavio, Ronaldo, and Leao.
Portugal XI (4-3-3): Diogo Costa; Cancelo, Dias, Pepe, Mendes; Neves, Bernardo Silva, Fernandes; Otavio, Ronaldo, Leao.

Like other major European nations, the Portugal National Team TV schedule heavily involves FOX and FS1. Having acquired the rights to the European Championship starting in 2024, FOX will have the broadcast rights to the World Cup and Portugal’s other major competition.
ESPN retains the rights to the UEFA Nations League, a tournament in which Portugal won the first iteration. Also, UEFA World Cup Qualifying features on FOX Sports, with select games on fuboTV. For example, Portugal’s World Cup Qualifying playoff against Turkey and North Macedonia aired on linear TV. The reason being that could have been Ronaldo’s last chance to play at the World Cup.
Fortunately for soccer fans, Ronaldo could be making his final ride come November and December of 2022. A great way to watch that without the high fees of cable or satellite is through fuboTV. FOX and FS1 are both available on the platform, allowing access to each game at the World Cup and European Championship.
For a long time, Portugal’s only threat was Cristiano Ronaldo. That is not the case in the twilight of Ronaldo’s career. Portugal vs Uruguay Live.
Joining Ronaldo at the top are a couple of young players dominating in the Premier League. Diogo Jota for Liverpool and Bernardo Silva for Manchester City are great options in what are deep club teams. Just behind them, Bruno Fernandes seems like he can provide any service necessary for both club and country. Renato Sanches, after struggling following a breakout performance at Euro 2016, is rediscovering his footing in Ligue Un.
Defensively, Ruben Dias makes a case for the best center back in the world. The Portuguese is one of Manchester City’s most important players and serves a critical role for Portugal as well.
The talent does not stop at a strong starting XI, either. Nuno Mendes and Joao Felix are both so young and talented. At major clubs already, it is a matter of time before these two names start to be regulars in the Champions League headlines.
Andre Silva is a quiet presence off the bench when Portugal needs a goal. The RB Leipzig forward has 20 goals in 50 appearances for his country. Finally, Ruben Neves and Danilo Pereira can fill in the midfield for both attacking and defending purposes.
The Euro 2016 champions were a shock to many. However, Qatar 2022 represents Ronaldo’s best chance at helping Portugal to its first World Cup trophy.
The Uruguay National Team TV schedule features each game from the team that has two World Cup trophies to its name.
Often falling in the shadow of Brazil and Argentina, Uruguay holds the honor of being the first nation to ever win the World Cup. In 1930, as the host nation of the inaugural tournament, Uruguay defeated Argentina in Montevideo to win the World Cup.
Throughout its history, some of the game’s greatest players featured for Uruguay. Most recently, that includes players like Luis Suarez, Diego Forlán, and Diego Godín. From a more historical perspective, Juan Alberto Schiaffino scored in the 1950 World Cup Final, and Hector Scarone was the long-time holder of the top scorer for Uruguay. Portugal vs Uruguay Live.

For viewers in the United States, fuboTV is what you need to watch all of the games including Uruguay.
With FOX Sports holding the rights to both the FIFA World Cup and the Copa America, many of Uruguay’s games are on FOX, FS1, or FS2. In the case of friendlies, these games can go to any channel, including something from ESPN or CBS. Fortunately, fuboTV carries those, too.
However, the reason we recommend fuboTV over a different provider is because of the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying location. In the United States, World Cup qualifying from South America is exclusive to fuboTV. The service is the lone provider of each nation’s 18-game round-robin. Plus, fuboTV carries all of the FOX and ESPN channels. Therefore, you will not miss any games.
